Correctly threading a tank cam band is a critical procedure to ensure the tank remains securely fastened to the BCD, preventing accidents and equipment damage. An incorrectly secured tank could potentially fall out of the BCD, posing risks to divers and gear. Here's a precise guide for threading the cam band buckle:
1. Start by taking the free end of the strap and pass it through the D-ring located at the end of the buckle.
2. Next, thread it through the second slot on the buckle, ensuring about 20cm (8 inches) of webbing is pulled through.
3. Thread the free end back up through the first slot and loop it around the end of the buckle, passing below the webbing from the previous step.
4. Finally, thread the free end through the third slot at the far end of the buckle and pull it tightly.
Once the cam band is in place on the tank, if further adjustments are necessary to achieve a snug fit, simply reverse step 4 and pull the webbing taut. Then, thread the loose end back through the third slot. A properly fitted cam band should be secure enough to snap closed, and the webbing on the tank should not be movable with force from your hands.
This meticulous procedure ensures the tank remains firmly attached to the BCD, guaranteeing the safety of divers and the protection of equipment during the entire dive.
